CHS Announces Leavell Endowed Chair Faculty Fellows
The mission of the UTEP College of Health Sciences is to provide high-impact, interprofessional and transformative education, research and community engagement opportunities. With this mission in mind, the Dean’s Office Leadership Team developed the Charles H. and Shirley T. Leavell Endowed Chair Faculty Fellowships, which will serve to advance the mission of CHS in the context of high-impact educational practices. The annual fellowships will be funded directly through the endowed chair position, currently held by Dr. Shafik Dharamsi, dean of CHS.
After careful consideration, the adjudication committee recently announced the inaugural cohort of faculty fellows:
- Faculty Fellow in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning: Dr. Carolina Valencia
- Faculty Fellow in Community Engagement: Dr. Dahlia Castillo
- Faculty Fellow in Interprofessional Education: Dr. Celia Pechak
- Faculty Fellow in Applied and Translational Research: Dr. Alvaro Gurovich
- Faculty Fellow in Global Engagement: Dr. Maria Duarte
Each fellow will receive grant funding, a graduate student assistant, and travel support to present their original work. Beginning in spring 2019, each fellow will initiate Requests for Proposals (RFPs) that will provide seed funding for CHS faculty’s scholarly work in the areas of the fellowships.
